The Model A Ford is equipped with an electric starter.

Preparation
Before starting the car:
Place the transmission in in neutral (center position).
Open the fuel petcock. The fuel petcock is
located on the bottom of the fuel tank on the passenger
side. The petcock is open when the handle is pointing down.
Set the choke as needed. The choke is controlled by a small round handle
protruding from the bottom of the fuel tank near the center of the car.
For a cold start, pull the choke lever out fully. For a warm start, it
is usually not necessary to use the choke.
Set the parking brake (pulled fully back)
The Model A Ford is equipped with a manual spark advance
lever and a hand throttle. These are located on the
steering column, directly behind the steering wheel.
Retard the spark. The spark advance (left lever) should be in the fully retarded (all the way up) position.
Starting
To start the car:
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it clockwise to the “on” position.
Press down with the starter pedal (located on the floor).
When the engine starts, release the starter pedal and adjust the
spark advance as appropriate.
If the car does not start after three to four second, release the starter pedal.
Wait 30 seconds, and then press the pedal again.
Troubleshooting
If the car doesn’t start after three or four tries:
Check the fuel system. Ensure there is gas in the tank and that the fuel strainer is clean.
Smell near the carburetor for flooding. If there is a strong smell of gas,
allow the car to sit for 10-15 minutes for evaporation to clear the excess gas
from the carburetor and try again.
Check the electrical system. Verify that the coil and condenser have proper resistance.
